Morgan and Reed

Wedding. November 5th, 2009 by Mark Elkins

Remember the recent flooding all over Atlanta? Morgan and Reed’s wedding took place right in the middle of it. Thankfully, the rain held up until the ceremony started, but once everyone started gathering inside, it came down. Hard. The ceremony itself was beautiful and heartfelt. Sometimes it feels like the traditions and motions couples go through during ceremonies are just that; traditions and motions…but everything Morgan and Reed’s ceremony was genuine. It was obvious how much love and contagious energy these two share. After the ceremony we were blessed with a few more minutes of sunlight, so we took full advantage of it by spending some alone time with Morgan and Reed. Then it was time over to the reception at the Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort in Stone Mountain Park…where everyone ate and danced the night away.

Hi Morgan / Reed,

Wow… These are awesome wedding pics! Reed, you look so much like your dad … but far more handsome and elegant. =) The two of you look very happy… those smiles can’t be faked. Best of luck to the two of you and may God bless you!

Emily and Addison

Engagement Session. November 4th, 2009 by Mark Elkins

I think some of my favorite sessions happen when I go into them without a game plan (now that I think about it, that’s true more often than not). But it’s especially the case with my session with Emily and Addison. See, usually I’ll have a set location or general area where couples want to shoot beforehand, but Emily, Addison, and I winged everything about the session. We met up at a home depot parking lot in Alpharetta, and hit 400 north until we found an exit that “looked good”. Then we just kinda went where the session took us. I seriously doubt I’ll ever be able to retrace my steps, but we had a really good time. Definitely have to give credit to Emily and Addison for putting so much trust in me :)

Mary Evelyn and Shawn

Engagement Session. October 29th, 2009 by Mark Elkins

Mary Evelyn and Shawn invited me to shoot with them in historic Savannah, Georgia. Such a cool place…rich with culture, art, historic architecture, and plenty of Spanish moss. We made sure to hit a few of the squares, and then ventured onto river street. Sooo crowded. I think it was Octoberfest…and there were wiener dogs everywhere, so maybe a wiener dog show? Who knows :) We had to get a little creative with several of the ally ways and rare isolated spots.

They’ll be getting married next October at the Carl House.

Drew:

Wow, first of all your composition is stunning. I love the angles of your shots especially the ones of them sitting against that wall. Great work Mark.

Kat Braman:

These are gorgeous! you really captured the love between them. so much tenderness coming through.

Marianne Taylor:

I loved Savannah when I was there in what seems like a lifetime ago now. You really captured the emotions of how they feel about each other so well.

Geoff Poitras:

Nice and clean / classic. I like your composure especially the one with the railing splitting the frame. Good use of a railing!

Rach:

Hi Mark, I’ve been following your blog because I enjoy your work so much.
One thing frustrates me, though. (Am I allowed to comment something slightly less than praise? :) ) In this past shoot, and in one with Jason n Jessica, and Indian couple recently, we don’t get to see the face of the guy, just the sides of his face. What does he look like? Does he have eyes? It makes me a little nuts. :) But don’t get me wrong, I keep coming back because your work is lovely.

Alan Hutchison:

Really nice work – well done!

Nikole:

I love me a good concrete stair. Great photos. Great session. The compostion is stellar.

Stephie Joy:

Looks like a sweet couple. I love the overgrown steps. Great set.

Mark Elkins:

Thanks everyone! And thanks for the constructive words, Rach. Sometimes I get so caught up with the natural interactions and emotions between the couple, that I’ll forget about posting certain (and sometimes necessary) elements for blog readers :) I’ll definitely keep those thoughts in mind as I post future sessions!

Razvan:

Beautiful set, Mark. I love that shot inside the restaurant

Krista Piper:

I love the series of them sitting in the grass. The whole collection is very fresh and interesting and you can tell how crazy about each other they are!

Gina:

Nice engagement photographs and the location(s) are great. The images of them with the cobblestones looks like they are somewhere in Europe – very romantic setting for sure!

Kristen Honeycutt:

LOVE these! The one at the table is soooo sweet!

James:

Stunning…sooo much love…. you captured their love!

Laura Horton:

Mark, once again, you’ve done a phenomenal job of capturing their love. As Shawn’s mom, I have to agree with Rach about capturing the guy’s eyes sometimes. The reason for me is because Shawn NEVER smiled for the camera until he met Mary Evelyn. Now you can see that deep sense of joy in every picture with her. I’d like to capture a full faceshot of that to hold onto forever! Looking forward to the wedding and after session photos!
