I’ve been so honored to be a part of so many different types of weddings this year…each of them incredible in their own way. Loan and Robby’s wedding was an all-day-all-over-Atlanta affair, starting with traditional Vietnamese customs, and followed by a western ceremony and evening reception. This post includes a few photos from their Vietnamese ceremonies, and early next week I’ll be posting the rest of their wedding day.

Traditional Vietnamese weddings are celebrated not only by a ceremony between the bride and groom, but by several different events that symbolize the joining and blending of both families. The first of these events is the visiting of the Robby’s family into the Loan’s home. Traditionally, the groom’s family brings gifts of tea, sweets, food and other items on an odd number of trays covered in red cloth. The odd number and color red both symbolize luck. The ceremony included serving of tea, giving and receiving of gifts, remembering of ancestors, and speeches of welcoming and well wishes for Loan and Robby and their families.

After the first ceremony, it was time for a little homemade Vietnamese brunch (which was absolutely incredible), before heading over to Robby’s house for more Vietnamese customs.
